Sisters Tina and Linda are delighted with the care Saga provides for their 87-year-old dad, Bill

1 May 2018

Widower Bill has needed care since he had a stroke 10 years ago. More recently he was also diagnosed with dementia.

Saga has provided visiting care for more than a year at the St Albans home Bill has lived in for the past 60 years. Two of our carers spend close to four hours with him each day.

It's welcome support for his daughters – Linda lives in Stevenage and Tina lives in Beccles, Suffolk. They both do as much as they can, but it's impossible to be on hand all the time.

Tina says: "Saga are so professional, they really know what they are doing – they're very responsive and efficient. If you ring the team leader with a request, she'll be typing an email to make the necessary arrangements with the carer while you're talking to her."

But it's the also human touch that has impressed the sisters. Tina says: "Everyone at Saga is so friendly – it's like they're part of the family. And they go out of their way to keep us in touch with what's going on."

She continues: "At our initial Saga interview, we were told we wouldn't have to worry because everything would be done for us – and it's so true, they are absolutely fantastic."

Linda says: "One of us phones Dad every day and we visit whenever we can but it can be lonely for him so the people contact with the carers is important."

And Tina reveals: "His condition means his mood can change. But Saga's carers know that and work with him. And from what he tells us, it's clear the carers treat him like their own dad, or their uncle, and that's really nice."
