How do we make it happen?

If you are interested in finding out more about Saga Care at Home services, give us a ring on 0808 278 3925. We will answer any questions you may have. And don't worry – most people have plenty. Just jot them down when you think of them to avoid that annoying thought – I should have asked that! – just when you have put down the phone. We’ll ask you questions, too, to help us to understand the requirements in more detail and enable us to recommend the most relevant service. For example, if we feel that visiting care would be the best option for your circumstances, we will discuss that with you.

What are the main options for care at home?

You can choose a visiting carer who comes any time during the day to help with whatever tasks need doing, or you can invite a carer to live with you. If care is needed overnight, we can provide a carer who will be on-hand during these hours.

How do Saga choose their carers?

Through a rigorous process of interview, assessment and checking to ensure that all our carers are experienced, well qualified, honest and reliable. We reject over 95% of applications, as only the best will do.

How much does live-in care cost?

At Saga, we pride ourselves on providing simple and transparent pricing for our high-quality, well-trained carers. We regularly check our rates against other healthcare providers to make sure that we maintain a competitive cost.

Because ours is a bespoke service, we provide an accurate quotation once we have assessed your needs and you have decided on the type of care that is most suitable. So when we have discussed the client’s situation and created their personalised care plan, we will guide you through the different pricing levels and options available.

We will also be able to give you comparative costs between different care options, especially if you are also looking at residential care choices. Live-in care, for example, can be an attractive financial option for couples compared with residential care.

In any event, all the details are agreed in advance so you know exactly where you are.

Are there finance options available?

There are a number of ways to finance elderly care and Saga can also provide more information on where you can find financial help. Simply ask our advisers when you speak with them and they will give you more information and guidance.

Help may be available from:

  • Third-party top-up fees
  • Charities
  • Registered Nursing Care contributions
  • Self-funding.

How do we agree what the carer is going to do?

You will work closely with your carer to decide on your priorities. Carers can undertake personal care, light housework, shopping, cooking, taking you on outings, medication reminders and be there for companionship. If you want something done – or done another way – you just need to ask. It’s all documented, and kept up-to-date in your personal care plan.

Is there anything I need to do?

You may like to start making some notes on your daily routine, your GP’s details, neighbours’ phone numbers, dustbin day, location of nearby shops or anything else that might be useful. If the carer is dealing with money, then you need to have a record book and cash available. For live-in care, you will need to provide a room for the carer to sleep in with space for their clothes and belongings.

What if I don't get on with the carer?

We have an excellent success rate in putting the right people together so clashes are rare, but you only need to talk to us and we will find a way to resolve the issue.

What cooking and cleaning does a live-in carer do?

Light housework and simple meals. The carer will follow your instructions to help you manage in your own home in the way you like to live. For more complex tasks, suitable help and support can be arranged.

I have pets, will that be a problem?

Absolutely not, simple pet care such as feeding is fine. For more complicated tasks, they can help arrange for a professional to assist.

How do I change, increase or cancel care?

Our head of office staff can adjust or re-arrange care assignments, and there is no charge if you give the appropriate notice. For changes in the complexity of care, the care plan will need reviewing. This is done regularly as part of our service by our professional nursing team.

What happens next?

The first step is to talk on the telephone with one of our advisors. If you wish, our local co-ordinator can come and visit you in a location of your choice to provide a more personal induction to us.

The next step would be a face-to-face assessment. This is when we will learn all about your abilities and lifestyle and create a bespoke care plan to provide you with the unique support you need.

Finally, all the arrangements will be in place to provide the highest quality of care, from a company you can trust, and with regular review sessions we'll make sure everything stays that way.

Do you provide specialist care for people with Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s disease?

Yes. Our live-in carers are able to provide specialist care services for a range of complex care needs. Every care plan is bespoke to the individual to ensure they are able to live happily and independently in their own home.

Can you offer short-term and long-term home care?

Yes. Our live-in carers are available for as long as you need. We also offer respite care, where a carer will step in to care for your loved ones on a short-term basis when you are away or in need of a rest.

Can you care for couples as well as individuals?

Yes. Our couples care allows elderly couples to remain together in the comfort of their own homes and offers and excellent alternative to residential care or care homes.

Can you offer help to adults with disabilities?

Yes. Our range of home care services cater for vulnerable adults of all ages, and allows them to remain independent in a safe and familiar environment.

Can I follow my usual daily routine?

Yes. Care is always provided on your terms, as and when you need it. Our live-in carers are always mindful of the daily routines of their clients and only offer a helping hand when it is needed.

Can I still do some of my own cooking?

Absolutely, the role of a live-in carer is to help their clients live how they prefer, following the daily routines and the activities that they enjoy most.

Is it still okay to invite guests to my home?

Yes. Maintaining contact with friends is just one benefit of live-in care for those who wish to remain independent in their own homes.

Could my carer take me on outings or on holiday?
