My mother's care journey...

It was a bit of a shock when we got a call from mum's neighbour to say she had a fall and was being taken to hospital.

We jumped in the car, but it’s a couple of hours drive, so was a while before we got there. Long waits and lots of conversations with doctors, but basically she needed help at home, as a result of the fall, she wouldn’t be as mobile as she was before.

I didn’t really know where to start, and no one seemed to be able to help me – it seems because my parents had been prudent have put some money aside they’re not entitled to any Government support.

Then I called Saga, and spoke to a lovely lady. She explained how they could help, and what the next steps would be – an assessment followed, and before we knew it everything was in place.

Mum is getting regular visits from two lovely carers, and is so positive after a visit. She has support during the week, and the occasional weekend when we cannot visit.

It’s been hard juggling work, the children and mum - but it’s comforting to know that she is being looked after – when we cannot be there.
